Great runs/rides - Kensico dam

Sometime ago, pre-Web, I used to post favorite runs to a PC Bulletin board. When the Web started take over as mass communication medium I stopped using that posted to a few sites and then just stopped. Well last week I did a run and ride which deserves documenting. So here it is in brief.

Where:Kensico Dam, White Plains, Westchester NY
What: a 7-mile roundtrip. Leave White Plains Metro North railroad station, run out towards the dam along the asphalt path that runs alongside the eastbound Bronx River Parkway. Once on the Dam Plaza watch out for steps on the right up through the trees, take these to the top of the dam, across the dam and down the steps other side and then cross the front of the Plaza back to the pathway.
Sites: Well its not the Bronx despite running along the parkway; the views from the top of the dam are stunning in every direction; the smell of the grass and trees just after rain was theraputic; fireflies in the wooded sections at sunset;

You can ride the footpath, just before the dam plaza you can exit on the road, Route-22 up to the top of the dam and then out on Route 22 through on Westlake Drive through Valhalla; through Thornwwod and under the Sawmill River Parkway; up to Pleasantville; turn right to Chappaqua; along a hilly route to Armonk and then back on the other side of the reservoir and damn to White Plains. 56-mile round trip.
