What to do with a "management directed" day off?

Route 22Thursday is US Thanksgiving and pretty much everything is closed. Since our team has finally announced and built our new software product, it ships on December 16th - the boss gave everyone today off as well! So, what to do with it...

Ride of course.  By 10a.m the view from the apartment window was beautiful, clear blue skies. So, booted and suited I took the bike down 14-floors and got outside. When will I escape from this wind? I was nearly blown over putting my helmet on. The temperature was 32F.

Set-off down to the path next to the Bronx River Parkway. 75% of it has been relayed, mostly as far as I can see to try to prevent some of the path getting flooded as badly as last year. Sadly, after just one day of light rain its already flooded in one place and because of the temperatures had already frozen over. This lead to question 1.

Q1. Is it permitted(don't worry about safe) to ride on a road designated as a Parkway in NY State?

Any having navigated around the flooding and near the end the team laying the tarmac I was off up Route 22 around past the top of the Kensico Dam and alongside the reservoir/Kensico Lake. It was a pretty good ride, light traffic and wide 2-lane roads. However, after crossing Rye Bridge, I got "honked" by a truck.

Q2. On a 2-lane road with a wide, but potted and jagged shoulder, should you ride to the left or right of the white line?

Anyway I soon passed IBM Corporate HQ, and headed down Main St, Armonk. I stooped for Pumpkin spice decaf Coffee and a read of NY Metro Sports(May 2005) in Winston's Coffe House and then it was back off home. I went back via Route 120 and then down into White Plains.

Rest of the day was a 5k run down the long way to the post office, an inspection of the White Plains YMCA where they have two indoor pools including a 25yd six lane pool. Minimum entry fee was $12 per session and the gym was below average. They had a reasonable monthly membership fee but not worth it just to swim, I then went to the New Your Sports Club which has just opened up on the top two floors of the car park opposite my building. I can see into the gym from the window of the apartment.

Stuning workout area, most of the cardio machines had 15-inch plasma tvs on them; great spin room with 25-bikes, they have spin classes every morning and evening; the pool was a small, 4-lane, 25m pool. Spoke to David at membership at got the opening deal. zero joinging fee and £79 dollars per month. A bargain... start Monday ;-) back to swimming, I am a happy/lucky boy!
