2008 Early race plans

Given the rise in the amount of pain I'm getting from my knees, and following on from my failure to get a decent run in anytime last year following numerous problems, for triathlon this year I'm going to focus on sprint distance races and see how it goes. I'm also going to get a pair of running shoes made to measure to try to better address my 2-inch leg length difference.

If everything works out I may do a longer distance race towards the end of the year, probably the Longhorn 70.3 since I have unfinished business having DNF'd in 2007. My A-Race is going to be the Cannons St Albans triathlon if I can get flights worked out as my eldest daughter is getting married in Vegas the week before. It was my first triathlon, I was chairman of the club and helped organise the race for 5-years, if I'm going to have to stop running, I'd like to have gone out having halved my first tri time, which is entirely doable, and won my age group, which is a stretch, but achievable.

The two September races are either/or. I won't do both but at this stage I'd like to have a crack at one and Cassidy got us a 5-night stay at a condo in Sarasota in a charity auction. We just have to work on dates.

Feb 8th          Mardi Gras 5k, Austin

March 17th    Star Flight 5k(24:15)
March 29-30 Lone Star Triathlon, Moody Gardens Texas - Aquabike half distance

April 13th       Playtri, Irving, Texas - Aquabike half distance
April 20th       Austin Cactus Challenge (olympic distance) bit gutted about this as they are switching to USAT age groups..

May 12th        Armadillo Hill Country Classic, 105 mile bike ride
May 25th       Capital of Texas triathlon(sprint)

June 8th       Cannons St Albans Triathlon, UK(Sprint) - My first tri - going back to win my age group

Sept. 14th      Escape to Siesta Key, Sarasota, FL (Sprint)
Sept. 23rd    Sand Key Sprint Triathlon Clearwater Fl(Sprint)

Oct. 3rd          Longhorn 70.3 Half Iron Triathlon(Aquabike Half distance or Half Ironman triathlon)
Oct.                 IBM Up Town Classic 10k

That being the case, I'm going to start Saturday riding around the Longhorn bike course again. Its a decent ride, pretty good roads, a rest stop half way with bathrooms, a decent start/end point with the potential for both runs and swims if you are interested, comment here or send email!
