Ryanair - How clean is your plane ?

I often wonder why I don't fly with budget airlines more often, save some money, airmiles or both. Well if others are anything like RyanAir from Ireland I simply will never do it...

I paid over 150 USD for a roundtrip ticket from the UK to Montpellier in the South of France because the flights times were right, not because they were cheap! I just might get home in time for a swim session tonight. Where as taking one of the full fair airlines, I really couldn't get home until the morning....

Arrived at the airport in plenty of time... wearing a suit, smart top underneath, smart black shoes, smart (small) black latop bag, smart small tan leather carry on bag that is the style of a carpet bag... its not even close to being full, just my jeans, another top, and my washbag...

Yep, carry-on limit one item... must check it in. After some debate where I didn't lose my cool, I took my passport back went to the bathrooms changed into my jeans put the suit in the bag and checked it in... sigh. Total weight of my two bags... 10kg or about 23lbs. I've never in 10-yrs traveling, over 3-million miles of flying had to check that bag, If it gets trashed I'm going to be mad as hell. It's not rules that make me cross, its the way they are applied. Loads of women with a carry-on and a purse/pocketbook, some with even shopping bags full of stuff. Sigh...

Anyway, on the flight now, left on time. Plane looks less than inviting, the carpet is loose in places, dirty with crumbs bits of paper on the floor, stains etc. Never mind, you get what you pay for. Half way through the flight and I decided to head for the bathroom. I have to say the pungent, acidic smell was only offset by the sight as I looked into the toilet bowl... it was the most disgusting thing I've seen in years. MY first reaction was English Soccer grounds in the 70's but then I remembered flying with Aeroflot in the late 80's.

I lifted the seat with my foot, the underside of the toilet seat was, well, indescribable. No, it wasn't the last person, the underside of the seat and around the rim of the bowl simply couldn't have been cleaned, ever ?

Having washed my hands I opened the door using a papertowel. Irrespective of what happens to my treasured leather carpetbag when I arrive back in the UK, even if it arrives undamaged and without delay I'm not getting on one of Ryanairs planes again.
