Still open for swimming

After spending the weekend sweating for a good cause, it was with some trepidation that I stood next to the reservoir near Goldens Bridge station and Route 684.

The temperature was only 63 degrees, the conditions overcast and more than a cold breeze. I'd got my wetsuit on and even a swim hat, but still gave it almost a minute while stretching my arms and deciding if I shouldn't just call it quits! I went in though and much to my surprise the water was much warmer than I expected. I swam the full length of this half of the reservoir and back in 50-mins exactly, with a 1-min break at the far end. Despite my recent lack of swim practice, a great swim.

I still didn't get any response to my emails or voice messages to the various NY State contact points about swimming in open water(lakes/reservoirs) and so still assume it's illegal to swim here, but what the heck!

to use this, copy/paste into a file with the extension of .kml, then double click and google earth will be invoked and you will fly straight to the location.
