Wow - A real person

Big hole

Wow, I'm in the middle of chaos, my life is descending into a bottomless pit, I'm about to move out of my NY apartment to Austin, Texas, and everything is piled high here and two sets of movers are coming in the morning one to take the rental furniture, the other to take my stuff. The bad news is I have no address to go to in Austin :-(

If that wasn't enough chaos to deal with, I'm scrambling to file my US 2005 taxes, which I got an extension for back in May but are due by the end of October. If you think doing your taxes is complex in the UK or US, wait until you live in post 9/11 USA, the things you have to disclose about your UK financial dealings, on top of the first US filing, makes it a mountain to climb. Never mind, my company has secured the services of E&Y to help... or so they think.

The E&Y Tax questionnaire is almost as long as the one from the IRS, but a call to the help desk was answered with "leave a message". When the E&Y Tax consultant called back he didn't help at all. Instead of answering the questions he just said "answer all the questions to the best of your ability" - in fact he said it twice or more, it sort of became a mantra.

Having got stuck again, I called, left another message and waited. Nothing. So I decided to call the IRS Direct. I got straight through to a very helpful woman, she answered the questions directly, there was no "press 1 to speak-to", or anything like that. Big up the IRS, I won't feel so bad giving you the money now ;-)

And then the phone rang, it was a Senior Loans officer from Bank of America. He was just cross checking my pre-approved mortgage application that was already pre-approved, to make sure everything was in good order. Once again, he was very helpful, answered questions directly and told me one of his people would be calling in the next few days to verify all the information, to agree on next steps etc. Another big-up, a real person with knowledge and authority.

E&Y are you out there? Please call... I'm waiting for you... "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability"; "I'm sorry, please answer all questions to the best of your ability";

Yeah, thanks. I'm still sat here in White Plains unshaved and in chaos... not even going to see my mate in NYC. Next time. Be well, keep training ;-)
